Breast Cancer
Breast cancer; It is a type of cancer that develop...
Fibroadenoma (FA): It is seen in the 2nd-3rd decade of life. When it reaches 2-3 cm in size, growth usually stops. On clinical examination, they appear as mobile, hard and well-circumscribed masses.
Diagnosis of FA can be made by fine needle aspiration biopsy or tru-cut. Lesions with a diameter of 2-3 cm detected in young women can be monitored after the diagnosis is confirmed. However, excision is recommended for women over 30-35 years of age.
Tubular Adenoma: A type of FA.
Phyllodes Tumors (Cystosarcoma phyllodes) (FT): They present as well-circumscribed, hard, mobile masses 3-4 cm in diameter. It is seen in the 3rd-4th decade.
In cases whose diameter does not exceed 2-3 cm, excision with 1 cm of normal breast tissue around it is sufficient. About 50% show local recurrence, although they are not malignant.
Approximately 65% of FTs are benign, 25% are intermediate forms, and the remaining 25% are true malignant forms. In malignant forms, mastectomy should be performed.
Papillary Lesions: Solitary intraductal papillomas are the most common lesions. They are mostly seen in women between the ages of 35-55. They often present with nipple discharge in the form of bloody or clear water.
Localized Sclerosing Adenosis and Radial Scar: Mimicks invasive breast cancer clinically and mammographically. It is palpable as a hard, irregular mass. The risk of breast cancer is 1.5-2 times higher than the general population.
Radial scar: Very similar to sclerosing adenosis. It does not carry a high risk of cancer. However, since its clinical findings and mammographic appearance resemble cancer, it is also important in diagnosis.
Duct Ectasia: Ductus ectasia usually occurs in the peri and premenopausal period. Ductal ectasia is a lesion that does not increase the risk of breast carcinoma.
Fat Necrosis: It usually occurs after chest wall and breast trauma (often caused by seat belts). It is seen spontaneously (or after unnoticed minor traumas?) in women with large breasts. It does not carry the risk of breast cancer.
